Bread and Chocolate
You will find Bread and Chocolate located off the main street in Puerto Viejo and it is well worth a visit.
Opening hours are Wednesdays to Sundays 7.30-3. Here you will find a wide range of freshly baked cuisine such as muffins, an extensive selection of bagels, cakes, bread and croissants. I particularly recommend the Apple Crumble cake which is very delicious. An excellent breakfast menu is also available including creamy scrambled eggs with bacon and sautA?ed potatoes, oatmeal with cinnamon (ideal for those rainy mornings), French toast and pancakes. Beverages range from batidos, fresh juices, earl grey tea and cafetieres of coffee .Cafetieres can also be purchased at 5,000 colones for the small (2 cup) and 9,000 for the larger size. An interesting sandwich selection is also available. The seating area incorporates a sofa to lounge on and a coffee table with some reading material and paper and crayons for young children. During high season breakfast time can be busy so its advisable to come early or at times to expect a short wait, but I’m sure you will find your food more than makes up for this. La Casa del pan
It makes a good stop for breakfast or lunch.Opening hours are approximately 7.30am to 4pm, everyday except Tuesdays. La Casa Del Pan serves delicious bread, made daily on the premises, excelllent empanades with spinach and the speciality of the house Pane rellenos (filled rolls )with cheese, ham, onion and tomatoe. A selection of cakes is also available including particularly good brownies. For lunchtimes choices there are sandwiches, a nice salad menu or chose from the very good and affordable pizza menu. Beverages range from batidos, coffee, hot chocolate and an interesting selection of teas. All of the above is served in a small, relaxed setting and served by friendly staff ;well worth a visit.
